Kiel University (German name: Christian-Albrechts–Universität zu Kiel (CAU)) is the regional university and scientific centre of Schleswig-Holstein. More than 20,000 young people study and over 2,000 scientists teach and do research at the university. The university currently offers 121 different courses, ranging from A as in agricultural economics to Z as in zoology.

But Kiel not only teaches academics and carries out research; for a number of years, Kiel University has undertaken multi-facetted initiatives to make its collected and generated knowledge accessible and, ultimately, useful to the public-at-large. This transfer of technology is one of the university’s central tasks. It acts as a knowledge base for, and driving force behind, the Science Park Kiel and thus contributes greatly to the development of Schleswig-Holstein and, in particular, to the regional economy.
